The UWC Development Fund seeks to secure funding support and partnerships for strategic interventions, priority and outreach projects. Among the ways in which the University seeks to support its students – the majority of whom hail from impoverished backgrounds – is by keeping its fees as low as is possible under what is difficult financial circumstances. In addition, the University offers a range of (costly) academic support and development services. Unfortunately, these activities are not provided for in the state’s subsidy formula. The UWC Development Fund provides critical budget relief for the University and creates opportunities to provide financial support in areas where the needs are greatest.
